Support can help improve quality of life for those dealing with cancer. Consider checking out the listed in-person and online support groups, as other survivors are often the people who best understand what you are going through and can provide good advice. There are also groups of survivors that exercise together to form connections and provide support.

Baton Rouge General Pennington Cancer Center

The Cancer Center in Baton Rouge offers two events, a Cancer Wellness program to provide insight along the cancer journey, and a Lymphedema Support Group for educational and emotional support. Check out their calendar of events to sign up for one of their free programs.

Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge

This Baton Rouge agency provides numerous classes and support groups for cancer patients. They have a monthly speaker series called Cancer 101 that meets every 4th Thursday, a breast cancer support group that meets every 3rd Wednesday, and they even have exercise classes for cancer survivors!

This New Orleans area hospital offers a breast cancer support group on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, and an exercise program specifically for cancer survivors that meets 3 times a week for 6 weeks. The Ethel Precht Breast Cancer Foundation is based in Lake Charles and has a breast cancer support group that meets on the third Thursday of every month at the Lake Area Medical Center at 6 pm.

Sisters Supporting Sisters Support Group

Sisters Supporting Sisters-Baton Rouge (SSS-BTR) is a nonprofit organization for African American breast cancer survivors. They provide monthly support group meetings that are held on the 1st Saturday of each month at Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church. SSS-BTR also has several programs that work in areas of advocacy, education outreach, networking and more.

Young women with breast cancer face unique issues. And in the South, there are more young women overall facing breast cancer. In Louisiana, young African-American women are significantly more likely to suffer from breast cancer.

That is why SurviveDAT is here. Part of the Gulf States Young Breast Cancer Survivor Network, SurviveDAT's mission is to help improve the quality of life for young breast cancer survivors, as well as their family and friends, by providing continuing resources and support.
